In 2008, the waterworks team at Tyler Union developed a new product, the TUFGrip joint restraint. This new product is available for PVC ductile iron pipe and was designed for optimal performance under high pressure conditions. The single tooth design
reduces the stress on the pipe and the 4”, 6” and 8” PVC designs have 50% fewer wedges than other restraints, which dramatically
reduces installation time.
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) recently presented Tyler Union the Silver Award for 2008 Best in Advertising
for the TUFGrip product ad.
This ad was designed by the Trilix Marketing Group located in Urbandale, Iowa. This is not the first time that Trilix ads for McWane
have won awards. Ads for Kennedy Valve and Clow Valve have also received awards.

UNION FOUNDRY PARTNERS WITH CITY OF ANNISTON
Union Foundry Company has partnered with the City of Anniston to provide job training for the disadvantaged, low-income, unemployed and underemployed residents of West Anniston through the EPA Brownfields Grant Program. A large portion of this instruction and training involves health and safety and Union Foundry welcomed the opportunity for Gary Vernon, the Safety Manager at Union Foundry to develop and teach the OSHA 30 Hour Outreach Course.
Union Foundry received a letter from Anniston’s Mayor Gene D. Robinson in which he stated, “Gary Vernon has blended with our team of training professionals to set a benchmark of excellence to be used as a model for future EPA Brownfields training projects. The EPA Region 4 Training Director, Mrs. Catherine Curry, met with Gary and was elated with the training presentations and the involvement of the Area OSHA office representative, Mrs. Virginia Ames.”
We are proud to have this opportunity to help out in the Anniston community and to showcase the level of environmental, health and safety expertise that exists throughout the entire McWane organization.

The American Foundry Society, AFS, has announced the winners of the 2007 Millionaires Safety Award. This annual award recognizes facilities that reach million marks of consecutive man-hours worked without incurring an occupational injury or illness that results in days away from work or death. To be considered for the award, facilities must be AFS corporate members. Union Foundry Co., Anniston, Ala., was recognized for 2 million man-hours and Tyler Pipe Company,Tyler, Texas, was recognized for 1 million man-hours.
